Patrick Moran specialises in the restoration and repair of antique taxidermy, be it an old skin rug, sporting trophies of both big and small game animals, glass case displays of birds and mammals or modern examples. From sympathetic cleaning to the repair of major damage, even fabricating missing parts, to treating insect infestation, there is little that is not salvageable. Please view the sliding gallery below to view some 'Before and After' photos of Patrick's work.
A pre 1947 Tiger skin mounted by Van Ingen after it was hunted by an ancestor of the family who commissioned the restoration work. Decades of use as a rug had resulted in numerous areas of wear, damage and fading.
The result after extensive restoration work which included numerous repairs as well as a full recolouring process.
Glass panes were replaced, the framework repaired and the groundwork cleaned and improved. The Tiger itself required repainting in the mouth, refurring in various places, particularly around the muzzle, fitting and remodelling of new glass eyes and eye lids, sculpting and painting of a new nose and a full recolour to the whole specimen.
